About Us
SUGARLOAF FARMS IS LOCATED IN FAR EASTERN OKLAHOMA. WE HAVE BEEN IN THIS SAME LOCATION FOR 25 YEARS. TRYING MANY BREEDS OF CATTLE, WE ALWAYS ENDED UP GOING BACK TO BLACK ANGUS. THE FLAVOR AND TENDERNESS IS SOMETHING WE STRIVE FOR WHILE RAISING OUR ANIMALS IN THE MOST HUMANE STRESS FREE ENVIRONMENT.

WE MAINTAIN A HERD OF APPROXIMATELY 100 HEAD ON 250 ACRES. MOST OF OUR CALVES ARE BORN IN THE SPRING WITH JUST A FEW BORN IN THE FALL.

WE ALSO RAISE BLACK AUSTRALORPS CHICKENS, KEEPING ABOUT 200 AT ANY GIVEN TIME. WE HAD A HUGE BOBCAT PROBLEM IN THE PAST BUT BRINGING IN MORE GUARD DOGS HAS HELPED A GREAT DEAL. THIS BREED OF CHICKEN IS KNOWN FOR THE LOVELY GREEN SHEEN ON BLACK FEATHERS AS WELL AS THEIR STEADY EGG LAYING CAPABILITY.

OUR LIVESTOCK IS CERTIFIED NATURALLY GROWN SO ALL THE ANIMALS ARE FED ONLY NATURAL FOOD PRODUCTS. IN ADDITION, ALL LIVESTOCK IS TOTALLY FREE RANGE. OUR CATTLE HAVE 200 ACRES TO ROAM AND GRAZE. SINCE OUR BEEF PROCESSOR IS JUST A FEW MILES FROM US, THESE ANIMALS HAVE JUST A FEW MINUTES TRAILER RIDE. KEEPING THEIR STRESS LEVEL LOW IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE QUALITY OF THE BEEF. THEY ARE NEVER GIVEN CHEMICAL WORMERS , ANTIBIOTICS, HORMONES OR STEROIDS OF ANY KIND.

OUR CHICKENS ARE LET OUT OF THEIR HOUSES FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND ARE ALLOWED ACCESS TO THE PASTURES WHERE THEY DINE ON GRASSES, JUICY EARTHWORMS,AND SMALL SNAKES. WE NEVER USE HERBICIDES, PESTICIDES OR CHEMICAL WORMERS. EGGS ARE GATHERED 3 OR 4 TIMES A DAY, WIPED OFF AND REFRIDGERATED.THE YOLKS ARE DEEP YELLOW AND MAKE THE BEST SCRAMBLED EGGS.

Additional Information
OUR PRACTICES OVER THE YEARS, HAVE GIVEN US VERY HEALTHY HERDS OF CATTLE AND CHICKENS. ANY ANIMAL THAT IS INJURED OR SICK IS IMMEDIATELY ISOLATED AND TREATED. THEY ARE THEN SENT TO A SALE OR HUMANELY EUTHANIZED. WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT ONLY ONE SET OF NEIGHBORS TO THE EAST HAS CATTLE AND THESE ARE SEPARATED BY A 50 FOOT WIDE CREEK.

WE USE A MANURE SPREADER TO FERTILIZE OUR PASTURES WITH CHICKEN LITTER FROM OUR HOUSES AS WELL AS COW MANURE.WE BALE OUR OWN HAY AS WELL AS THAT OF OUR NEIGHBORS SO WE ARE ASSURED OF NO CHEMICALS IN OUR HAY.
