About Us
The Oklahoma Food Project grew out of the www.oklahomafood.org website, which was started by the Romero Catholic Worker house as a food security and social justice project. Romero House is part of the worldwide Catholic Worker movement, founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in the 1930s. More information about the Catholic Worker movement can be found at www.catholicworker.org . Romero Catholic Worker House is a lay religious community. Oscar Romero was the Archbishop of San Salvador, he was murdered by his own government in 1980, while celebrating mass, because he defended the poor and protected their rights.

Additional Information
From the inside cover: Venite Adoremus - which is Latin for "Come, let us adore", is a work of musical and religious devotion which we hope will be a blessing of peace during these difficult and tragic times. These melodies sing of ancient truths - the Word made flesh, the Sun of Righteousness, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. This is the work we make reality through the Oscar Romero Catholic Worker community in Oklahoma City. Every month we deliver food to people in need who don't have transportation to get to a food bank. We deliver meals to homeless people in the downtown OKC area, publish occasional newspapers and newsletters, and as the opportunities and situations present themselves, work for justice and peace. This CD benefits that work, and on behalf of those we serve, we thank you. More information about our work may be found on the internet at www.justpeace.org.

You can view the CD cover, back, and inside art at www.justpeace.org/venite.htm.

About the Music
Robert Waldrop is a native, 4th generation Oklahoman, whose great-grandparents came to Tillman County, Oklahoma in 1902 from Texas and Missouri. Born in Frederick, he learned piano from his Aunt Carol Rae Perry, and organ from Mrs. Mary Gilliland, organist emeritus at the First Methodist Church in Frederick. He says that near as he can figure it out, his style is a blend of traditional counterpoint and improvisational techniques (lots of Baroque influence, it seems) with the southwest Oklahoma tradition of rural gospel music improvised on the piano. It was his good luck that SW Oklahoma had a lot of good piano players in those days and he heard a lot of them growing up. He studied organ with Dr. Darwin Wolford of Ricks College in Idaho, music history, organ pedagogy and literature, and organ performance with Dr. Anthony Godding of Oklahoma City University, and musical theory with Professor Payne, both of the OCU School of Music. He studied theology, religion, New Testament Greek, and the writings of the Bible with Dr. Amy Oden, Dr. Donna Dahl, and Dr. William Martin of the OCU School of Religion. He presently serves as director of music at Epiphany Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, where he is responsible for a 27 rank tracker pipe organ that was originally built in 1865 in a church in Waterbury, New York. When the building was demolished, the organ went to the Organ Historical Society. It was restored, given a new case, and some additional pipework by the Andover Pipe Organ Company, and installed at Epiphany Church. It will undoubtedly outlast the building it is presently in, unless of course there is a tornado. The pedals, keyboard, stops, operating mechanisms, and most of the pipework are all original. A "tracker organ" is an organ which is all mechanical in its operation. The only electricity used by the organ is to power a small fan that pressurizes the wind chest. Originally the organ was pumped by hand using bellows.

The church also has a Yamaha conservatory grand piano, with a little "Made in Japan" plate on it, which was the instrument used for the recording. He directs a traditional choir of 38 voices that can sing Latin and Anglican chant and southern gospel, and most points in between, also a bell choir, and at Christmas a children's choir.
