Fresh Mushrooms: shiitake, oysters, maitake, assorted mushrooms About Us Rich became interested in mushrooms because of their health benefits. Many studies have shown mushrooms such as shiitake and maitake to be beneficial to the immune system. Mushrooms are also high in protein and minerals. At the same time we were exploring having our own business. Mushrooms seemed a perfect fit for us since we could grow and sell a product that would provide healthful benefits with unique and wonderful flavors. As the business grew, Sharon also became involved as Rich's full time helper. For the past several years, we have been growing and selling mushrooms through Tulsa farmers' markets. We sold our mushrooms for one season through the OSU-OKC farmers' market, but discontinued due to time constraints. Browse through our Products for Sale Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) Our mushrooms are certified organic by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Mechanical means are used for pest control. The growing medium of hardwood sawdust is enriched with organic grains. The mushrooms reclaim what could be considered an agricultural waste product by using it for their food. After the mushrooms are harvested, the sawdust blocks are composted, hence transforming a pile of sawdust into life-giving soil. Our Guarantee to you: If for any reason you are not satisfied with any product purchased from us, we will cheerfully refund your money, either by sending a check or by arranging for a credit on your coop account. Knowing about problems helps us to serve our customers better, so please do not hesitate to bring any problem to our attention! Additional Information Included in our long range plan is to develop a mushroom growing system that can be adapted by other small growers who can then sell through their local farmers' markets. We are currently in the process of switching to all local grains for our mushroom supplementation. The goal is to buy only from Oklahoma farmers, but this has been complicated by the fact that many of them do not store the grain on site and they are only available at harvest time. |
