Well, it was *so great* that I wore it from noon to 2 a.m. and I'm offering these as mega scarfs. They are actually the fine cotton dinner naps or kitchen towels in assorted colors. But they're beefy and go way around your hair, so even if you have Big Hair or Dreadlocks, they'll do fine. This is the kind of gear I used to take backpacking.  Cherokee Squares, a Syllabary Quilt

I used four-inch squares of hand dyed (and other) cottons in all different colors that I made, then I wrote Cherokee syllables on them. They say that the more ways you experience something, the better you will learn it. So, knowing it takes 10,000 hours to learn Cherokee, this is one way to add more language learning into my life. Some of these squares will contain words instead of just letters. Part of the border is also blackberries. Blackberries are an important cultural food and they come out to be picked at about Father's Day. This quilt can be bought as just a quilt top ($100) that you can finish or give to someone to finish for you. Or it can be purchased compleat ($450) and you can pick the color (or pattern) on back, the thread colors, whether it is made puffy and deep like a comforter or stiff and strong like an old-fashioned quilt from days gone by.  Cherokee Syllabary Quilt
Order number of quilts. Created using plain white cotton, which I dyed using professional dyes and then discharged, this quilt is 57 inches by 84 inches. On it is written some of the syllables of the Cherokee language. I made those panels in repetition to help me learn the syllables, and then went back in and wrote the English pronunciation next to each syllable. This quilt does not contain all the syllables. It is a sampler. Also I long arm stitched the quilting, and it is probably the first quilt in modern time which is stitched in places with the syllables spelled out in thread.  Cherokee Water Bug Quilt
Order number of quilts. Here is a really sweet quilt with a lot of little cool sewing scribbled on to it. It is called "Cherokee Water Bugs" because it has 2 big water bugs on it. If you know about Cherokee stories, then you will know that the water bugs are a part of how land was made. It also has a Cherokee seal in the middle of it.
The thing I like most about this quilt is that it is exuberantly bright in every corner. Some of the squares were purchased from sellers who represented them as Indonesian stamped batiks, but I am not enough of a fabric sleuth to guarantee anything except that they are diverse and play nicely together. I machine pieced it.
Dimensions of 82x76 make this quilt useful probably for a twin bed or cot, sofa snuggler, cabin quilt or topper for a full sized bed. Make sure those dimensions work for you, because like the women of olden days, Fluffy just stops makeing them when they are finished and my quilts are not necessarily to standard sizes.
Backing is solid black with black thread, and the fiberfill lining makes this a quilt that is lightweight. It will stay sort of puffy and new looking. Machine quilting is stipple with some freehand custom along the chintz border.

These fabrics were selected to go together on the day that my grandson, Kai Brinkley, was born. If you just want the quilt top, you can choose your own batting, back color, threads, machine quilting pattern (or freehand) and do the quilting by hand or machine then blind stitch or stitch in the ditch to finish off the edges. That will cost you about $350 in time and materials. Or, for $450 you can get a fully finished quilt and I will carry out your wishes about the color of backing, type of batting, thread color and machine quilting style or pattern (freehand art in itself!), the binding style and more.  Civil War Replica Quilt or Quilt Top with Cherokee History

Half of these are reproduction yard goods typical of the time of the Civil War. The other half are hand-dyed muslin which has been saddened or toned down a bit to give a more authentic aged look to the muslin. On each muslin square is a fact about Cherokee history during the Civil War Period. Typical larder supplies, numbers of orphans, surnames of warriors in the Mounted Rifles of the Confederacy led by Stand Watie or of the men in a company of the Cherokee Home Guards. Some squares contain popular quilt patterns of that time. Some contain pictures of folks like John Ross who played a decisive role in Cherokee history during the turmoil. This is a quilt top, priced at a modest $100 if purchased for you to quilt.  Potholder Tacked Fluffy Comforter Quilt
Order number of quilts. This is the sort of quilt that happens when someone has way too much time on their hands. See, I was making a batch of my fun Funky Potholders, but I decided it was going to take way too long to use up all the fabric that I had out. That is when I started sewing them together, and made this big quilt top. Then, I realized that I would need a backing so I found some gorgeous contemporary Japanese chrysanthemum and zinnia print, mostly black, for it. Then I decided that tacking would not be fluffy enough without a zillion ties. (My workspace is a coffee table, so I can not really machine quilt big surfaces.) And that is why this quilt is a double-honker with a layer of usually cotton or 80/20 or bamboo batting, plus an added thick and fluffster layer of fuzzy cloud-like poly medium loft. It is randomly tacked with fuzzy yarn... or so it would seem. Actually the tacking is with cotton black thread multi skein and each fuzzy bit is attached to each side. Heck yes it was time consuming. But that is the kinda gal I am. So, this is a fun quilt with just a mound of prairie points and flat trim, some depression era reproduction prints and also some hand dye. Its sort of a foundation pieced crazy quilt demonstrating a lot of techniques and complexity around one theme--- FUN! It is shown on a full standard bed top and hangs off on 3 sides.  The Outdoor Cherokee Syllables Quilt Top
