 Leaves of Three - Poison Ivy Relief

An old home remedy for poison ivy is old fashioned lye soap. Poison ivy is spread on the skin by an oil called urushiol so the first thing to do when you get into it is to wash well and strip those oils. Old fashioned lye soap used to be really good at stripping oils. Modern lye soap is made with extra oils for moisturizing and most of my soaps are not stripping in the least. This one is the exception. "Leaves of Three" is formulated to have just enough oils to react with the lye, but not enough to leave any residue. So, it's excellent at stripping oils. This soap also contains jewelweed and pine tar. Jewelweed is a popular herbal remedy for poison ivy. Pine tar soap is often used for itching conditions such as excema and poison ivy. To round out the soothing properties of this soap it contains aloe vera and oatmeal. To use: lather well with the soap, rinse well then lather again. Allow second lathering to dry on skin. I've gotten rave reviews from my fellow farmers market vendors who tested this soap for me this summer. My son and husband also got the opportunity to try it out this summer. (several times actually....grrrr) Everyone says it works very well! I will admit this bar is nothing to look at (poor thing is pretty ugly) and it doesn't smell that great either, although some people seem to like the pine tar smell.

Stella started out as a very ugly duckling. She was too pretty of a fragrance to be so ugly, so I decided to give her a make-over and do a rebatch. She turned out beautiful. However, this one is lightly scented due to my underestimating how much fragrance was left in the bottle. She's still a very nice soap and very easy on the eyes.
