My husband,Craig, is a third generation rancher/farmer.His father was a farmer and Craig's grandfather, Pasquale Garone was a dairyman,eggman,farmer and rancher.Our two sons, Tyler and Chris continue on in our family business as the proud fourth generation in agriculture. Living on a ranch is a wonderful life and was a great place to raise our sons. Almost two years ago, Craig and I decided to move our operation toward sustainable agriculture. Sugar Spiced Pecan: Sandy Creek Pecans,sugar,vanilla, and cinnamon. This is a gluten and egg free recipe. Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We tend and harvest the pecan trees ourselves and at this time, our nuts are taken to Tishomingo where they are cleaned, cracked and shelled. Our goal is to do the cleaning, cracking, and shelling ourselves. The cracking operation is very efficient and all the nuts coming into the location are identified and tagged. We are confident that the nuts that are returned to us are our nuts. We are committed to increasing our ranch's ability to produce nuts while working to enhance and maintain environmental quality and the natural resources. Our pecans trees are treated as a crop and are maintained. We use our cattle to naturally fertilize the trees. Instead of baling all our pastures, we save our grass as natural pasture. This provides a better ground cover for moisture for the pecan trees and better nutrition for our cattle. We are exploring ways to use compost tea for orchard insect control and ways to utilize the cast off nuts and shells from the cracking process.
