Haskell County Promise, Mobilizing our community to Build the Character and Competence of Haskell County's Children and Youth by fulfilling the Five Promises of America's Promise. The "five promises" are (1) caring adults, (2) safe places, (3) healthy start, (4) marketable skills, (5) opportunities to serve. Terri Butler writes us: "I will be a Haskell County resident the remainder of my life, I am raising a child here, my husband has lived here since birth, and myfamily visits here often. I have faith in God, our youth and in what many wonderful people are doing to help improve the lives of our children Because of them, our rural community has an opportunity, not only to survive, but to thrive. Our children are the promise of hope. I have applied for a foundation grant to fund strawbale construction/sustainable living workshops here. Also, I will be applying for additional foundation grants to assist in building a Gentle Health / Sustainable Living Center here." She is a good example of Oklahoma wisdom: do what you can, with what you have, where you are. http://www.haskellcountyspromise.org. 918-967-8679, teri_butler@yahoo.com.
