Lehman's Eggs

We will have new potatoes and sweet onions this month.

Heaven Sent Food & Fiber

We have just extracted our Cherokee County Honey and are looking at harvesting again. This has been a good pollen and honey year for us so far and we expect to harvest again in a couple of weeks. I was just reading how imported honey, supposedly from India (really China but labeled India) is being dumped on the U.S. Market. Customs officials can't keep up with these Chinese imposters, loaded with antibiotics and heavy metals such as lead. Just another reason to buy from your very local bee keeper. The closer the bee hives are to where you live and work, the better for you and your family. Another beekeeping friend of mine just lost 10 hives when his neighbor sprayed Grazon on his fields. It’s important to educate your friends and neighbors as to the detrimental effects of herbicides and pesticides on the pollinators of your food.

We have the rest of our new yarns in... blends of alpaca and silk, merino and bamboo, hand-dyed sock yarn and natural colored merino for your favorite projects from wool produced on our farm. The dye pot has seen a rainbow of colors lately as we mix it up so that there's never a dull visual moment in our yarns. The fiber animals are enduring the heat, but will be happier when the cooler weather comes. Felted soaps and our hand-made with new essential oil blends.

Tomato season has finally come in full force and the heirloom tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and eggplant are really coming on. The chickens are feeling the heat however, and egg laying is down a bit.

We are working on planting for fall, out in this >100oF heat to make sure that you have great produce into the cooler months.

See a video tour of our farm at: http://okhorizon.com/2011/Show1124/FarmersMarket.htm

Thanks for supporting locally produced food!

Shady Grove Natural Farm
We're Leslie & Alan Moyer of Shady Grove Natural Farm and we're new Coop producers this month. We sell edible landscaping plants for your yard, garden, and farm. We live in the community of Shady Grove in northeastern OK. Over the last few years, we became interested in more "useful" plants in our home landscape. Prior to that, we had a large ornamental garden that was beautiful, but took a lot of time, energy and money to maintain. We began adding some food-producing plants and enjoyed the literal fruits of our efforts. After a move, we decided that we wanted our gardening efforts at our new home to amount to something more....we wanted some kind of tangible payoff for all of the work. Because our farm is more spacious than our previous suburban yard, we began searching out sources for larger quantities of plants. One thing led to another and our business was born.
Because it's not an ideal time to plant in Oklahoma, we're going to hold off listing products until the September or October ordering cycle.  But we wanted to introduce ourselves in the hopes of whetting your appetite and so that you could do some planning for fall planting. Fall is a GREAT time to plant trees and shrubs in Oklahoma, giving plants the fall and winter to establish good root systems before next summer's dry period.
We hope you'll take this time to visit our website and browse our Plant List. Once there, you can sign up for our Newsletter where you will learn about some of the plants we sell, and receive updates about our farm.  Mosey on over to our Bookstore for some education and inspiration and then check out the Links where you'll find enough information to keep you busy (and enthusiastic) for weeks.
We think we've assembled an interesting and unique selection of edible plants and we have plans to add others.  We hope some of our plants can find a home with you soon!

Peach Crest Farms

Ok, enough of the weather. Please, we need some rain. We have been planting our crops and then watering them like crazy.

Amazingly, we are having crops. Our squash loves the heat and we had planted heat tolerant tomatoes and they are coming on strong. Our harvest of onions is coming in well and they are sweet. We have also invested heavily into our permanent beds of herbs and they are making it well.

The peaches have taken it on the nose. So we are done with them till 2012. The trees are on a holiday this year.

For fruit, we will have the luscious cantaloupes. The ones coming off this month are the caravels. They are a favorite but not giant, around 3.5 lbs. In the fall we will have apples and pears. We would usually have okra, but it needs a rain, so check back towards the end of the order cycle and see if we have added some. From sunny Peach Crest Farm,

Susan

Cattle Tracks
John’s Farm was pleased to have several visitors this past month, including Fred Morgan, President and CEO of Oklahoma State Chamber, and Chelsey Simpson, one of Coop’s own, and I had a telephone interview with a free-lance writer from Michigan. Fred was visiting in Fairview and came by to learn more about our farm. Chelsey was interested in the effect of the drought on agriculture. She got a first-hand, up-close look, and it wasn’t pretty. She was gathering information for an article she is writing – best wishes, Chelsey. Olga, the free-lance writer, is writing an article that will include notes-and-quotes from organic, sustainable farmers.

We hope you stocked up on the beef cuts you need for all the 4th of July celebrations this weekend; we will be attending the Cherry Street Market on Saturday and celebrating America with our family in Tulsa. Looking to July, plenty of time remains for grilling and smoking, so please take this opportunity to order burgers, brats, and steaks. Coop members have an advantage of more inventory when ordering these items. Due to size limitation of small freezers in our cargo trailer, we can only transport so many steaks and the last few weeks have run out of our customers’ favorites – ribeye, filet, and KC’s. We picked up beef this week so our Coop customers will have fresh, tender, delicious steak choices!

Crock-pot cooking is for more than cold weather simmering – it’s GREAT for hot weather cooking as the kitchen does not heat-up.

NEW ITEMS: all-beef Breakfast Sausage Patties, all-beef Chorizo, and Skirt Steak with Fajita Marinade (we’ve done the seasoning for you). SPECIALS: steaks and other cuts for the grill, check it out! Smokin’ and Grillin’: Prime Rib and Striploin Roast.

PRAISE GOD for the 1/2 inch of rain that fell during the night on the parched, thirsty soil of our farm.  Please join us in continuing to pray for rain as the cattle are running out of grass, ponds have gone dry, and the fields are too dry to make a seed bed for planting. THANK YOU to those who have inquired as to how John’s Farm is managing in the extreme drought we are experiencing and for those who have commented, “we are praying for rain on your farm.”
May each of you be BLESSED.

Keep the heat outside and do some grilling! We cook with all our products, so we have plenty of suggestions using our salad dressings, mustards, jams, and jellies from marinades to sauces, sides and salads. Grilling recipes with each order this month!
Speaking of grilling, it is a quick and easy way to heat up our pizzas. Just 6-8 minutes and you have an appetizer or dinner. Each pizza feeds 2-3. We offer a large variety to please just about everyone.
We also offer chilled soups like Gazpacho, Chilled Tomato Tarragon, Chilled Tomato Bisque, Carrot Lemon Cream, and Gypsies’ Spicy Black Bean Gazpacho.
Under Side Dishes and Sauces we have a nice selection of salads to beat the summer heat. Check out the sauces. Perfect for grilling the Cherry Rosemary Mop Sauce is delish on meats. The Tequila Sauce is fabulous on apple pie or grilled fruit. As for the Prairie Fire Chocolate Sauce, a big bowl of vanilla ice cream will do just fine
Thanks for your orders! We always look forward to cooking for you!

Hardesty Cheese
Hello Everyone,
I am tired of the heat. We did get a little shower last night that will help, but long range forecast is over 100 for most days. Snow will be falling soon and I can complain about the cold.

We lowered all of our prices this month because we found ways to cut our cost. Please take advantage of it as cost may go back up. We are also listing our Gift boxes. They are about half the price of last year, this will only be for July and Aug. prices will increase in Sept. You can request a later delivery date if you want or take them now. If you want a large quantity for family, employees, key accounts, etc. please call us. We can fill most any need. We are not selling the larger blocks this month because we are starting our trade show season and we do not sell them at the trade shows. We will offer them again closer to Christmas.

Thank You
The Gift family

Aloha All,

Well as some of you might have guessed, I was on vaca in May. Yup, took a week in Oahu and soaked up some sun and good times. It was definitely a soul feed with the flora and fauna, the water and sun and, of course, the food. And you know what? People gave me a hard time for it -- said it was crazy leaving in the middle of the market season. But you know what? Life isn't just about making money and working 'til the sun goes down. It's about taking care of yourself and enjoying some down time. So that little trip was all about taking care of ME. 'Cause it's all about me. HAH! Just kidding . . .

This is my favorite time of year in terms of the availability of lovely local produce at our farmers' markets. And I mean to tell you, I can get myself in trouble sometimes with all of this temptation around me. Beautiful product is like shoes: you can never have enough. Needless to say, all those Okie finds will make it into our food and hopefully on your table.

I've really enjoyed Jezebel, the new food truck. Yes, she is hot, but I'm so close to fittin' into my skinny clothes for it. I am still doing the Saturday morning Cherry Street Farmers' Market in Tulsa from 7 to 11 and have started doing the Brookside Farmers' Market on Wednesdays from 8 to noon. I'm hoping that the latter market will pick up in terms of clients, because Jezebel is a thirsty girl and lives off gasoline and propane. She is not a cheap date. So come out if you can.

Mahalo,

Shady Oaks Family Farm

Our family has been pretty busy through the month of June. With no end of busyness or heat in sight  :-)
We have taken a break with school for now, too hot to think anyway but that isn’t the only reason. Our pullets are doing well and are almost full grown, we hope they will start laying sometime in late August. We will run a special when they do.

We still have some milk available call us at 405-614-5990 if you are interested in purchasing some top quality tasting goats milk.

Our garden is still going along, although the heat has affected some of our crops. We will post soon what we will have available for sale.

Usually I write far more in detail in our producer notes, but you will have to excuse me this month, I have a rather urgent appointment that must be kept. But before I go I would like to share with each of you are newest addition to the farm.

Let’s see so far this year our Nubian Goats had their kids, we added more chicks to our flock, we had a little sparrow who laid 2 batches of eggs outside our kitchen window and allowed us to watch her raise 2 separate broods of babies.

But this is our best addition, and I believe the families favorite. This past Saturday, June 25, late in the afternoon, we had our 7th child. The Lord has blessed us so richly. We had a little baby girl, that all the family is greatly enjoying, and loving on. Right now my dear baby is waiting to eat, so I will end here.

We hope you all are keeping safe in the heat, and we look forward to doing business with you.

From all of us at Shady Oaks Family Farm.

KAF Roasters
KAF Roasters

Some exciting new arrivals lately--a lovely Organic El Salvador coffee, a punchy Papua New Guinea Organic, a well balanced Peru, and as the last of the excellent Organic Brazil Peaberry ran out we were able to find a delicious Organic Brazil flatbean to replace it with!

I am really excited to find an Organic El Salvador coffee, which I have been searching for for several years now. While excellent coffee abounds in El Salvador, trying to find one certified Organic and possessing good cup quality has been difficult. I hope you'll agree this one was worth the search!

Anichini - Moore Ranch & Farm
Lamb or beef steaks are great on the grill!  We still have ample stock of Finn and Shetland lamb and some our Holstein beef remaining while we wait for a new supply of beef from our processor. We are also taking our meat to the farmers market and to begin developing a more regional demand for local meats and produce. It was interesting that most of the customers on Saturday spoke about the health benefits of eating real food or food with chemicals and unprocessed! This is a huge shift in interest!

On a creative note, may we suggest that you can make your own dog or cat food or treats with our less expensive meat from our lamb or beef economically combined with the less commonly used cuts, prepared with whole grains such as rice, vegetables such as carrots and other produce. The recipe could be frozen in meal sizes and thawed in the refrigerator for later consumption.

We pulled about 500 pounds of onions, red, yellow and white last week in 115 degree temperatures. We're waiting to hang them until after the rain which still hasn't arrived. We may decide to add onions to our Coop inventory, but, our CSA's customers will definitely be receiving onions in the upcoming weeks. Garlic didn't fair as well this year with the constant freezes and high temperatures swings often within a twenty four hour period.  We've planted Ping Tang Long eggplant we grew from starts and Aunt Molly's Ground Cherries and some sweet potatoes. We still have beans, squash, corn, pumpkins and melons to plant and a few peppers and tomatoes we started from seed outside. We planted our cucumbers 4 times and about one third are finally doing well. All but 3 of the 600 beets we planted along with the kale failed due to the unseasonably hot weather. After our first 100 zinnias were eaten by blister beetles and grasshoppers probably 20 survive and are blooming beautifully along with plenty of cosmos.

For more farm news, visit our website at: www.anichinimoore.com.

Thanks for being our customers and for your patience with these unusual extreme weather conditions these past months! We appreciate you enormously!

Pork & Greens

Hello Coop friends! Well, the dog days of summer have arrived earlier than normal, and the lack of rain has really put a hurting on the clover pastures. This may be the first year we’ve ever had to start feeding alfalfa hay in the middle of the summer.

We had a new Large Black gilt, named Abigail, have a purebred litter this past week. She only had 6 piglets, but that’s not uncommon in purebred litters. She’s doing a good job raising them, and her sister is due any time now. Hopefully she’ll have a little bigger litter. We hope to have some Christmas hams available from these two litters!

As with the past couple of months, our initial listing will only be partially completed. We’re picking up product on the day the listing opens, so as soon as it gets sorted we’ll have it posted, which will probably be by Saturday evening, July 2nd.

Now that vine ripened tomatoes are coming into season, we’ll have two additional products listed, Heritage Sliced Balogna and Heritage Sliced Cotto Salami. The salami is a large, pre-sliced, sandwich sized version of our current salami. Both of these products make excellent summertime sandwiches with tomato, lettuce, and bacon! If you haven’t tried our Smoked Andouille Links yet you should give them a try. They’ve been the big hit at the Cherry Street market where we grill them on our brat cart. A little blue cheese dressing, chopped onion, and grated cheese. Mmmm!

Thanks again for your support of local farmers and producers!

Sugarloaf Farms
Happy Fourth of July to the Co-op family.

This month we are having a big blowout sale. We really need to empty out all the freezers so we can butcher again. So see our inventory for all of our price reductions. This month we will be offering more potatoes, yellow kandy onions and white star sweet.

On a personal note, Stan had open heart surgery on June 28th to correct a faulty valve. He came through the surgery with flying colors. He is on his way to a speedy recovery. Thanks to all who called and inquired as to his welfare.

Snider Farms

Hey everyone,

Well, another hot month. Things are getting serious in Southwest OK. Crops are not growing, gardens are not producing, and cattle are being sold because everyone's out of grass and water. People say this is the worst drought in a long, long time. Hollis had the dubious honor of being the hottest spot in OK at 115 the other night on the news. Unfortunately, that 115 has not been a one day thing -- they've all been around that mark the last two months. Sorry about sounding so grim. God is always good -- He will see us through.

We've still got plenty of peanuts and peanut butter and we're thankful we get to stay in the air conditioning to make peanut butter! Peanuts are a healthful snack, easy to carry, and best of all, you don't have to cook them!

Thank you for sticking with us and stay as cool as you can,

Jamie & Stephanie Snider and family

Skyridge Farm
Too hot to plant, fish or cook. I had given up on gardening at all in my own gardens this summer and then the rains came this morning. I have moved all my plants to the shade. “Morning Sun, Afternoon Shade” is such a good thing for plants in Oklahoma in this heat. Containers on porches in the shade are even better. Maybe, a combination of shade salad herbs is always good. These would include arugula, sorrel, salad burnet, parsley. Plants that are thriving with the heat and loving the sun are: Greek columnar basil (does not go to seed or flower), Copper Canyon Marigold, and Stevia. Partial shade is good for the lambs ears, and scented geraniums. Mints are happy in full shade. I have nice rosemary, to include a Barbecue rosemary with very strong straight stems for grilling as skewers. I would plant rosemary in containers for the summer and plant in the ground in the fall or repot and bring it in the house in the winter.

With the dry heat and the wind I have had an easy time making paper. I am offering note cards in the Language of Flowers. Roses for "love", scented geraniums for "happiness", lavender for "devotion", rosemary for "remembrance", larkspur for "levity, a light heart". Marigolds stand for "grief, comfort in sorrow" and balsam stands for "ardent love, impatience". So you could have a note card for love, happy occasion, thanks for being devoted, thanks for the memories, lighten up, good grief and I can hardly wait, and peppermint for warmth of feeling. These notes can be ordered as single notes or combined into sets which make really nice gifts. They will come with envelopes in a cellophane sleeve. The seeds are wildflower/cut flower seeds and can be planted any time of the year.

Happy 4th of July and have a great summer. Hope you got rain and you are gardening, fishing, cooking . . . .

Luis Saenz Fine Art Photography
Luis Saenz Fine Art Photography is pleased to become part of the Oklahoma Food Cooperative, this time as a producer and not just a consumer. As a photographer Luis Saenz strives to be able to capture a moment in suspended animation being the voice that drives his photography.
Native from Chihuahua Mexico, and recently transferred to Oklahoma from New Mexico. He has fallen in love with Oklahoma, deciding to settle down and call it home. Although he admits that at the beginning, it was hard for him to find inspiration to be creative, since he was still missing the scenery from New Mexico; it wasn’t that long before he started to fall in love with what Oklahoma has to offer: from the prairies, to the lakes, the immense skies, and the wild animals, as well as the great variety of architecture and mixed ethnicities of its habitants, which he promises to capture at its best.
Please join Luis Saenz on this adventure where he’ll present to you new art work each month, and different format alternatives; all of them printed using pigment based inks on heavy weight Fine Art matte, velvet or metallic paper. This process not only brings out the deep richness of the color in the images, but provides unmatched archival print longevity.
Also, make sure to visit his website www.luissaenz.com where you can see more of his past and current work, and follow him at local and out of state events or Art exhibitions.
Thank you,

Hello to Everyone! Summer is definitely upon us -- and unfortunately we are dealing with extreme drought conditions still. We are making do best we can and still have some excellent grass fed beef -- no grain at all -- available. We are irrigating a small pasture where we finish these steers off. Unfortunately we are having to sell off a few of our other cattle because of a lack of grass -- so we ask everyone to pray for rain!

Specials this month include nice round steak -- tenderized 3 times and cut 1/2" thick -- these are great to use as minute steaks! Very tender and flavorful. Our supply of clean wholesome Hot Dogs and Brats are also on special so everyone can enjoy some on the grill on these hot evenings. Nothing but lean ground beef and seasonings go into these! We also have some beef broth bones available this month -- for those of you who have been asking. The chicken supply is still good, with a few of the boneless breasts and thighs still available. The roasters are fantastic smoked!

Wishing everyone a great summer and hoping for rain!---

Just a quick note to let everyone know we have updated our inventory on beef as we will be able to get another back from the processor just before delivery day. We have resisted raising the price on the beef, despite sharply increasing input costs for us, however not sure how long we can hold out! (Maybe the economy will settle down and we won't have to!!??) We suggest you stock up now, before further rising input costs force us to pass some of the cost on, which we do not want to do. We have some attractive bundles pricing on ground beef, or pre-order specials for 1/2 and 1/4 carcass. We now have ample supplies of ground beef, patties, etc. We also have a good supply of broth bones, which have been extremely popular. This beef is 100% grass fed with no grain being fed. It is mature Black Angus beef that will be full flavored and delectable!

Cattle Tracks
Check it out – awesome selection of steaks and many other cuts of beef still available. There’s plenty of time left this summer for grilling. Have you tried smoking our all-beef brats? That’s how we prepared them for our Field & Feed last fall and OH...the many compliments! Here’s a quote from our of our pleased customers who shopped with us last week:We LOVE Cattletracks beef and will continue to spread the word about your great product.

Thank you, Sarah, for being such a loyal customer.

Anichini - Moore Ranch & Farm
Greetings from extremely drought ridden Northwest Oklahoma. We still have plenty of ecologically grown beef and lamb available so please stock up! The meat is healthy, lean, and tastes fantastic. Soon we'll add more beef when Ray's, the farm family owned certified organic processing facility, calls us.

The drought here means I'm at the farm more and have less time to write or perform paperwork. We are just about finished with our review of SSARE grants that have also been delayed due to the drought. We believe seeing is believing. There are less utilized strategies for managing drought, such as capturing the refuse stream for composting/mulching and rainwater harvesting. These are risk management tools for rebuilding soil and water holding capacity for local foods, improving public health, and food security. We grow ecologically because we believe eating chemicals doesn't make for good health dynamics. In that vein, I've ordered the book Tomatoland about little known facts concerning agriculture and has been likened to earlier exposes of industrial agriculture. Makes appreciation for our OK Food Coop even greater!   Here’s the Washington Post's review: http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/books/barry-estabrooks-tomatoland-an-indictment-of-modern-agriculture/2011/04/11/AGei5rOH_story_1.html
We have also been recruiting new Coop members at the farmers market and elsewhere in eager anticipation of restarting the Woodward delivery site. We've learned that some former members cancelled their memberships when the route was dissolved and are considering rejoining! We are encouraging them to do so!
Thank you for being our customers, and for your patience during these extreme weather conditions! Please call or email us (www.anichinimoore.com) if you are interested in joining our CSA or in learning more about what produce we have available.

G-J All Natural Beef

FARM NEWS:  FREEZERS ARE FULL

Greg and I are proud of the fact that the meat from our farm to your fork was BORN and RAISED on this farm.  We even help in the packaging of our products from an Oklahoma USDA processor. We know for a fact our animals have never received any antibiotics, growth hormones, animal by products, or chemical wormers. FREEZERS ARE FULL of BEEF, lots of steaks, kbobs, ribs, and roasts. NEW: Our hamburger in 1 lb and 5 lb packages. Our ground beef is in vac-packed blocks. Easy to put in the ice chest for summer travels without the leakage, unlike tubes.

G-J Pastured Poultry: Look for Whole Baking Hens, whole fryers, and cutup chickens  (remember grandma’s and everyone wanted the wishbone. These cutup chickens include 1 wishbone, 2 breasts, 2 wings, 2 thighs and 2 legs. No backframes and no giblets.

On our farm, we believe in letting animals have time to grow. Baby chicks are picked up from a local nursery the morning they hatch, are fed, pampered, talked too, watered frequently, and given Fertrells organic garlic oil and Braggs Organic apple cider vinegar daily. The chicks are fed multi grains with Fertrells Organic poultry nutribalancer. Our chicks are not processed at 6 weeks like many. We do not process until 10 weeks old. They have been allowed to run around chasing grasshoppers. They learned quickly to check under the light pole for june bugs each morning. Toby the Great Pyrenees is their guard dog.  The birds are processed in an Oklahoma USDA processing facility, and Greg and I are there to assist with this job. We take pride in the fact that we are with the animals from start to finish.

DARP
Hi All,
We can't believe it's July already…and is it HOT! Speaking of hot, we have some hot deals on chicken this month!!! We’ve had a lot of requests for split breast (bone-in/skin-on chicken breast) which we are proud to offer all of our friends in July. As always, we just want to thank our co-op family for all of the support you have shown us. Please, if you have any other requests for products not listed, feel free to let us know. You can visit our website at www.greatchickens.com

Thanks again!!!!!

Shepherd's Cross

Shepherd's Cross has added some nifty items this month.

MULCH MATT

New this month is our unique  100% natural, biodegradable wool mulch mat.  We have been working on perfecting  this mulch mat for about two years, and it is finally here!  It is effective in maintaining moisture around the plant, and inhibiting weeds.  Made on our wet felt rolling machine.  Reasonably priced at $7.

WOOL DUSTER

This unique duster is made from 100% natural wool; it is washable, and 100% biodegradable.  The dusters are available in two sizes (the one pictured is the large).  They are long lasting and a great deal of fun to use!  We have been using ours for several years now.

Earth Elements Market & Bakery
Hello Cooperators,

I know it may seem like Earth Elements has disappeared, but we are still here plugging along.  I have been very focused on the getting the farm kitchen comfortable and workable as well as working on the downtown OKC's new Entrepreneurs' Kitchen. We hope to have the downtown kitchen up and running by next month. The farm kitchen is still being improved and we are still trying to settle into a routine. This project has been an adventure. The construction process has provided many lessons in patience. Organization and Focus have been my mantra these last few months. Overall things has been very good, we have experienced many delays with crazy issues from things not done properly in 1928 and our new building was built on all four property lines, which has created some interesting challenges. Moving from 2400 sq ft to 450 sq ft has also created its own challenges, but the Earth Elements Team has been awesome through this transition. We plan to fill everyone in soon. We appreciate all the calls and emails of support and all the understanding we have received in needing to focus on these projects so we can continue to offer our community the Best Wholesome Local Food.

We are excited to add a product this month. We managed to process this beautiful Cheddar Cauliflower in the Strawbale Bakery and it is wonderfully delicious. Grown in Tahlequah, chemical free, harvested, blanched and frozen for you. You can find it under FROZEN VEGETABLES.

One last note: If you are interested in starting a food business, or are in need of a commercial kitchen, contact us at 405okck@gmail.com. The entrepreneurs' kitchen is just a few weeks away and rental slots are starting to fill up.

Happy Summer, Stay Cool, and Eat Local
Many Blessings
April

Magee Farm

We have a few 40# burlap bags of wheat for those of you that would like to stay away from plastic totally, or just need the bags for reuse. Some are a little loosely woven; I would not plan for long term storage in them. Speaking of storage, do you have buckets? How about an economic refill. Our 25# bag of wheat at $8.00 fit nicely in a five gallon bucket.

The Magee family will be on vacation next month during delivery day. We are going to pick up heritage wheat seed in Kansas. Due to the continued encroachment of government and big business, we are planning to plant hard winter Turkey red wheat this fall.  Coming soon will be total control on all new varieties of seed. Hopefully the old uneconomical varieties will be spared.

Please pray for rain.
Steve Magee

Briarberry Farm

We'll be adding our wild blackberries to the co-op website as we get them throughout this month. Due to the drought and the heat wave they will be very limited in quantity but they are just as sweet and flavorful as ever. We are expecting to list some new products in the near future once the larger Earth Elements facility is available for us to produce products in Oklahoma City.

The Briarberry net-zero energy farm house project has been coming along well since I started at the end of March. There are limited hours during these hot days to work outside, but I'm hoping to have the exterior finished by the end of August. By that point, I'm planning to start maintaining a blog to post updates on my progress for those interested in following the project. One of my goals is to demonstrate that it is possible to produce a net-zero energy home which is every bit as affordable as a traditional home by meeting halfway between the tiny home movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_house_movement) and the German passive house movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_house) without losing the amenities like you might with a tiny home, or breaking the bank like you might with a passive home.

High Tides & Green Fields

Due to a family emergency, I won't be in Oklahoma to start the microgreens next week. I'm sorry to have to cancel all the orders for this month, but it can't be helped.

Y'all stay cool as you can.

Hardesty Cheese
If you can’t beat the heat use it to your advantage. We are for July only having a melt down SALE. All of our cheese will be sold for almost wholesale prices. So get some and melt it on nachos, grilled cheese, hamburgers, or anything you desire. Just get it now because we may not be able offer these prices again.

Thank You

Heaven Sent Food & Fiber

Just when you thought you might have missed the free-range eggs for the month, we have listed more! Medium to large brown eggs from our New Hampshire Red chickens are great for your breakfasts and on salads. Enjoy!

Wheat is out of our fields and in our dryer storage. Grain harvested is less than usual but great when considering we’re living in a drought and it’s a miracle there was any grain. Order wheat berries, flour, and organic beef from John’s Farm – we appreciate our orders, we love our customers.

THANK YOU, Oklahomans, for your support, concern, and prayers for Oklahoma farmers!

Skyridge Farm

I have added a few plants to the list and a few more of my handcrafted seeded cards. Ornamental Black Pearl peppers and Lemon Drop peppers. Sweet basil and Thai basils. The patchouli is very happy, 6 " pots should go all summer in the shade, it is all about the fragrance. I would put everything in morning sun, afternoon shade. Plant in containers on the porch till the weather cools off. I am replenishing my stock of greeting cards and note cards. You can order note cards individually or by the set, just e mail me your choices. Sets are as priced for 4 in a set or 6 in a set and packaged in cellophane. Check out Live Plants/Herbs and Paper Products/Notecards.

Thanks,

Monica

Anichini - Moore Ranch & Farm
We just added ecologically grown red, white and yellow onions to our Coop inventory. The onions were grown using all OMRI approved products which we also offer to the public, Azomite and Neptune's Harvest fish/kelp. Please e-mail or call us about buying these OMRI products. We offer discounts for larger or bulk farm purchases as well as for individuals.
We are planning to add produce, meats, and other products to our blog and/or website (www.anichinimoore.com) as it becomes available for our farmers market, CSA and on farm customers.
It's still scorching hot so our notes are shorter again. We've been going to the Woodward Farmers market and you may find us there on every Saturday. We may be attending the conference for Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) in August so may not be at the farmers market on August 13th. We are trying to determine if going to OCM's and the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Administration Council Board meeting on August 14th - 17th and then making Coop delivery day on the 18th are all doable.
Thank you again for being our customers and for your patience during this difficult and lengthy extremely hot/windy weather pattern!

Stone Stack Mill
Sweltering heat got you baffled about a summer meal. Try our new line of grains. After that warm cornbread and butter for lunch why not go to the all time favorite of our ancestors with a glass of cold milk mixed with a little leftover cornbread for supper. And a hot loaf of bread and a fresh garden salad is awesome anytime of the day!

This month you will find our new products located at Stone Stack Mill. We offer 100% STONE ground wheat, blue cornmeal, and yellow cornmeal.

We are located on Historic Route 66 in the Hydro/Weatherford area and a part of PBar Farms. Visit our web sites at www.stonestackmill.com and www.pbarfarms.com

Cattle Tracks
Keep in mind when you’re purchasing flour and wheat berries that on John’s Farm the wheat berries are frozen for a minimum of two weeks before being thawed and ground for flour or whole berries placed in pails. OSU recommends freezing as a way of promoting longevity of the product. Our packaging, bags and pails, are food-grade and although we’re not especially sold on poly materials the pails and bags assure a clean product, one that comes safely to you.

Beef – we’ve got it and every beef on this farm was born on this farm, lives on our farm, and we take the livestock to the processor. Know a farmer – know the source of your food. THANKS to all for your continued support and for your prayers for rain for all of Oklahoma.

American Heritage Family Farm
Just a quick update -- we have added more healthy delicious eggs from our happy free ranging hens and some very nice freshly dug Red and White Potatoes. These potatoes will keep well so a good time to stock up for the next few months. We have a Bargain Priced a 5# bag for only $8.99!

We will be picking up another freshly processed 100% grassfed beef on Tuesday, so be sure and get some of this great beef also!

Cocina San Pasqual
Happy 4th of July. Our kitchen is hoppin' busy to match the real Oklahoma heatwave. We have Red (Salsa), White (Potato Salad) and Blueberry Topping for ice cream or pancakes. It is low sugar, using 50% fruit, and has a few roasted chiles to peak your interest in Southwest food. While a big hit on the July 4th weekend, we have saved some for our coop customers.

In addition, the Oklahoma Farm to Fork Market trucks are packing grub for their journeys to meet all our Biscuit Eaters (Customers.)  You will be able to get our food weekly in a town near you. Just ask me how!! 405-880-7645 or bloominbotanicals@juno.com.

We have a new visitor that is settling down nicely at Pumarama, a Canadian Lynx. She is four years old and spent her first two years as an ambassador cat. Their story, like so many other predators, is reduction in population due to habitat losses from humans.  They follow the snowshoe rabbit population and are now found mostly in Canada. She is shy or aloof, hadn't figured out which, and loves watching Thunder, The Bobcat, play with us and his toys. In the dark of the night, I have caught her secretly playing with rugs or the leg of a deer or antelope.

Rowdy Stickhorse Wild Acres
We have been busy busy busy there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done. But when you can see producers’ puffed up with pride like a banty rooster over the progress being made in their future of local food, it just makes a person feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The heck with the space shuttle and the moon, let’s focus on the here and now, Oklahoma Farm to Fork Market will be landing in your community very soon.
Over the past year several committed producers joined together and built what is known as Oklahoma Farm to Fork Market, (OFFM). What is OFFM? The short and sweet of it is we are a group of committed farmers that want to bring farm fresh clean food to your local communities and nurture confidence in your local food system! WOW that’s a mouth full. We have a new web site: Oklahomafarmtoforkmarket.com, and with this site we have a blog and newsletter. We are still a work in progress so please check in every few days to see what is new and when OFFM is coming to your community. If you have any ideas or would like to help with this venture, just give one of us a call.
I will be posting an update on the 4 orphaned piglets and how they are doing, along with a few new summer recipes, and how the new big bus is coming along. That makes five buses thus far, can you believe the progress? Great food comes from great producers and let me tell you OFFM producers are committed to being Your Local Food connection. Please check out our hard work in progress at Oklahomafarmtoforkmarket.com, at Okfarmtofork.wordpress.com, or you can join us on Facebook & twitter.

Once Upon A Silver Moon
Hello to all,

We have added lavender sachets to our offerings. Nice, plump purple sachets with sparkly blue ribbons make these a nice gift option as well as a treat for yourself.

We finally shot and posted pictures of our dream pillows, too. The fabrics are really cute, especially the Tinkerbell ones for the faerie dreams blend.

We are also continuing to keep track of your incense purchases -- buy 10, get one free. The count is retroactive to the first of this year, and there is no expiration date. So if you are a fan of our handmade herbal incense, you'll like this!

We are on Facebook now. You can "friend" us in two ways:
facebook.com/Ande.Spenser -- the shopkeeper, and
facebook.com/OnceUponASilverMoon -- the shop.

We're working on our website, www.OnceUponASilverMoon.com. It's, errr... kinda coming along. We are also getting our blog working pretty well at www.OnceUponASilverMoon.com/blog. Subscribe to it using your favorite RSS reader or Live Bookmarks on Firefox, for shop updates, book and movie reviews, and just to stay in touch with us as we move toward our goal of reopening our brick & mortar shop in 2012.

Thanks for your continued support!
